Emma Corbett, better known by her stage name, Suzie Q, was a mere 17 years of age when she began work at an upmarket gentlemen’s club in Sydney. A pale pimply redhead she felt nothing short of awkward on her first night – surrounded by buxom bronze amazons in their towering stiletto heels. However by the time she had finished that first shift, she knew in her heart that this would be her career.

From table dancing in the clubs of Paris and London to performing backyard strippergrams in the suburbs of Western Sydney Emma’s first book The Stripper Next Door gives an inside look into what it’s like to get naked for a living, what goes on behind the scenes at a Penthouse shoot and what happens when it comes time to tell your parents that you are not in fact waitressing at a 24 hour cafe in the city.

Open, honest, funny and at times heartbreaking, The Stripper Next Door delves into the often misunderstood worlds of both stripping and pole dancing. Not all pole dancers are strippers and not all strippers are pole dancers – but what is it like when you are in fact, both.

Suzie competed in the first ever Miss Pole Dance Australia in 2005 – making her the longest standing competitive pole dancer in the world (she took out the Pairs Division of the Australian Pole Championships in 2017).

The book details the highs and lows of performing and competing pole dancing with your boyfriend, what it’s like to own a pole studio and how Toby’s parents felt when they learned their son was dating Miss Nude Australia.

The main one being that women turn to stripping because they have no other option. Personally I think I was very lucky to have spent so much time around this tribe of beautiful, intelligent and empowered women who were confident in their bodies. Being a stripper and a pole dancer has undeniably been the source of my body confidence and I am incredibly grateful to each and every one of the women with whom I have shared the stage.”
